LifeArt coffins, made from en√iroboard™, were independently tested by NATA accredited Environmental Management Auditors in 2007 to find that they significantly reduce the impact on the environment.
LifeArt coffins have set new standards in the use of recycled materials and in emissions for coffins and caskets; whilst helping the funeral industry reduce its impact on the environment. If all families chose LifeArt (Enviroboard) coffins, our crematoriums would meet their contribution towards global emission reduction targets.

1. LifeArt coffins co ntain up to 97% recycled fibres.
LifeArt coffins are manufactured using fibres recovered from recycled cardboard boxes and sugar cane waste.

These are compressed between two printable liners to make an ultra-strong, ultra-light board.
The fibre core consists of 65% post-consumer kraft paper waste and 35% sugar cane waste bonded with cornstarch glue. The outer liner is made of 92% post-consumer kraft paper waste and 8% virgin fibre from Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources.
There is about 300g of cornstarch glue in the board used to make a LifeArt coffin. Approximately 89% of coffins are made of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), often called kraftwood. MDF is made by bonding virgin wood fibre with formaldehyde resin under pressure and heat.
There is about 3.2kg of formaldehyde resin in the board used to make an MDF coffin.

2. Producing MDF for a coffin releases more than twice the greenhouse gases than producing recycled cardboard for a coffin.
Making the board used in an MDF coffin releases the equivalent of about 33 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Making the recycled cardboard used in a LifeArt coffin releases the equivalent of about 13kg of CO2 into the atmosphere.

3. MDF coffins release more than twice the emissions of LifeArt coffins when cremated.
Independent cremation tests conducted by Stephenson Environmental Management found that MDF coffins had pollutant levels 213% higher than LifeArt coffins made of recycled cardboard.
An environmentally friendly product, made from recycled material, visually appealing, good for the planet, is a sensible choice. The right choice. It just made more sense to choose the best environmental material. And the funny thing is no one can tell the difference between a finished MDF or Enviroboard coffin.

Whether your choice is cremation or burial ... the only choice is enviroboard.
